Thread count - what is it

Cotton satin with thread count 600 TC

Our bedding is made in several different qualities with the common denominator that the textiles used are made from organic cotton. What sets them apart is the way they are woven and the thread count of the fabric. Thread count is usually shortened to TC and the digit indicates how many threads (warp + weft) are woven per square inch of fabric.

“A rule of thumb is usually that bed sheets with a thread count between 200 and 300 TC is perfect. Sufficiently tight to be soft against the skin and at the same time sufficiently airy for the body to breathe properly during the night. When it comes to duvet covers and bed sets, there are a few different schools but in the end it comes down to how youre individual experience of the different fabrics are since we're all differnt. After a certain level of thread count, it becomes a little redundant and that limit goes somewhere between 500 - 600 TC."

A higher thread count does not necessarily mean a higher quality, of course it is about the type of thread used and how long fibers the threads are made of. Our Bedding in the Premium Collection is made of Indian long-fiber compact combed cotton which makes the fabric airy even at a higher thread density and minimizes the risk of pilling. In addition, the cotton is GOTS and OEKO-TEX® certified which guarantees a high quality of the cotton fiber used in the weaving of the fabric. The labeling also means that the fabrics meet quality requirements regarding wear, washability and shrinkage.
